Mercer County (4-0) beat Illini West (2-3) 8-1 in softball at home Thursday.
The Golden Eagles scored the first five runs of the game, plating two in the bottom of the first inning and adding three more in the third. After Illini West scored its lone run of the game in the top of the fourth inning, Mercer County answered with two runs in the fifth and one more in the sixth.
Elsie Cook went 3-4 with two RBI for the Golden Eagles
Alivia Gillespie earned the win, allowing one run in seven innings.
