The 2025 Mercer County Fair is underway, and Fair Board President Rita Williams says opening day couldn’t be better. “It’s just nice and overcast, a great breeze—and that’s the way it’s going to be all week long,” she told WRMJ’s Terry James during live coverage from the fairgrounds.
Tuesday night features one of the fair’s most beloved traditions: the Little Miss, Junior Miss, and Miss Mercer County Fair Queen Pageant, beginning at 6:30 p.m. “Ledith Whitehall and her team have done a fantastic job. They’ve got 51 contestants, and they always put on a great show,” said Williams. She encourages not only families but the general public to come out and enjoy the event.
Wednesday is packed with activities, starting with Kids Day. A $30 wristband offers unlimited rides, and one lucky boy and girl will each win a brand-new bicycle. “It’s a joint effort between the carnival, our taffy vendor, and the fair board,” Williams explained. Winners receive gift certificates and can exchange their bike sizes locally if needed. The giveaway takes place at the pavilion, and winners must be present.
Wednesday evening shifts gears with RPM flat track motorcycle racing, adding some speed and excitement to the midway.
Williams also emphasized the importance of community support in making the fair a success. “It takes a village—actually, many villages—to make this happen,” she said. “We don’t have major corporations here. It’s local businesses and individuals that make the fair possible. Sponsorships are what keep the grounds beautiful.”
This year marks the 173rd Mercer County Fair, dating all the way back to 1853. Visitors are encouraged to stop by throughout the week to take in the improvements, enjoy the entertainment, and celebrate Mercer County’s enduring fair tradition.
