The 2025 Mercer County Fair is hopping with excitement—especially around the rabbit barn. WRMJ’s Terry James caught up with three young rabbit show participants: Charley Stuaan, Frankie Stuaan, and Kori Stuaan.
Frankie had reason to celebrate, taking top honors in the rabbit show. “I don’t know really,” she said modestly when asked how she won. “I just saw the look of your rabbit. It’s got big pointy ears.” Her winning rabbit’s name? Lottie.
Charley also showed off her rabbit, Brownie, and said she plans to participate in more shows this week. Meanwhile, Kori, who is showing in the open show, also has a rabbit named Brownie.
The trio only began raising rabbits in March, but they’ve already picked up on the responsibilities that come with the hobby—feeding, watering, and learning along the way. “You don’t have to feed them twice a day,” one explained, “but they probably like it.”
And while rabbits may be a new passion, Frankie is no stranger to winning. At this year’s Rhubarb Fest, she took first and second place in the professional pie category. “I’m coming to your restaurant when you open,” Terry told her.
Look for Charley, Frankie, and Kori at the fairgrounds all week long as they continue their adventures in showmanship.
