With just over two weeks to go before the Illinois Primary, members of the Joy and Aledo Fire Protection Districts are continuing to push the need for a tax increase to pay for ambulance service in a large part of Mercer County. The increase for someone with a $100,000 home would be less than three dollars a month.
Former Aledo Fire Chief Dennis Litwiler stressed the importance of voting early or voting on March 19.
“A yes vote is so important. I guess my biggest thing is to get out there and vote. I know there’s not a lot of things on the ballot this year at this time in March, but it is so important for people to get out and cast their ballot and hopefully support a yes vote for the ambulance district. It’s like I said, it’s kind of to the point where we either have a service or we don’t. And so please get out and vote yes. It’s not many dollars we’re talking about, but it’s a life safety issue.”
Residents of the Joy and Aledo Fire Protection Districts are voting on the Ambulance Referendum in the March Primary. Keithsburg and other affected residents will vote later this year.
Elite EMS was the only ambulance service to step forward and bid on providing the service.
