Macomb (28-5) went 9-12 on three-point field goals in the Bombers 54-38 sectional championship win over Rockridge (26-7) at Alice Ingersoll Gymnasium in Canton Friday.
The Rockets opened the game on a 7-0 run and led 16-11 at the end of the first quarter. Macomb’s leading scorer on the season, Dion Doyle, was whistled for his second foul with 7:02 left in the second quarter and the Bombers trailing, 17-11. With Doyle on the bench the rest of the first half, Macomb outscored Rockridge 16-5 to take a 27-22 lead at halftime. The Rockets never cut it to a one-possession game in the second half.
Drew Watson scored a game-high 16 points for the Bombers. Malachi Conley added 11 points off the bench for Macomb.
Landon Bull paced Rockridge win nine points. This season was the fifth time in nine years the Rockets advanced to the Sweet 16.
The Bombers advance to the Bank of Springfield Center Super-Sectional Monday against Williamsville (25-9). The Bullets beat Alton Marquette, 48-47, Friday.
