Susan L. Sewald, 61 of Aurora, Colorado, died suddenly Thursday, September 24, 2026, at her home in Aurora, Colorado, and was welcomed by her personal savior, Jesus Christ. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, October 17, at Aledo Cemetery, Aledo, Illinois. Speer Funeral Home, Aledo, is assisting the family.
Susan Leigh Anderson was born at the Mercer County Hospital on August 21, 1965, in Aledo, to Gary L. and Karon L. (Berry) Anderson. She was baptized and confirmed at the Messiah Lutheran Church in Aledo and was a life-long member of the Lutheran Church. She graduated in 1983 from Aledo High School, then graduated from Illinois State University in 1989 with a degree in Communications. She later graduated from Pima College in Colorado with a Nursing degree. She married Mark Sewald on February 9, 2007. She considered Mark her best friend and soulmate.
Susan’s professional career began in Bloomington, Illinois, with the Internal Revenue Service while still in college. She then moved to Chicago and worked for the Sheldon Good & Company Real Estate Auction Firm for several years. She then moved to the New York City metropolitan area and spent several years with the National Restaurant Association. Susan always loved Denver, Colorado, and finally decided to relocate there where she met and married Mark. She was currently working for the Department of Labor with the State of Colorado.
In her spare time, Susan and Mark frequented Estate Sales and Auctions looking for antiques. She even had an antique booth selling her finds. Diamond digs were one of her favorite things to do and she favored the Crater of Diamonds State Park in Arkansas. Mexico and Kuai were some of her favorite vacation places, and she was planning on going to Kuai in February of 2027. Mark was also able to convince Susan to go to Las Vegas in 2025 to attend WrestleMania for two straight days! Susan was interested in studying her family history and was proud of her membership in the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Mayflower Society. She was also a member of the Aledo Investment Club.
Susan loved her fur babies, her 2 cats, 4 pugs, and her mom’s Yorkie, she inherited. She also loved to spoil her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and their children!
Susan is survived and loved by her husband, Mark; step-children, Brian Sewald and Danielle Sewald; grandchildren, Brooklyn and Declan; brother and sister-in-law, Jason and Kim Anderson; aunt and uncle, Barb and John Clifford; and nieces and nephews, Travis (Jasmine) Anderson, Jeanine (Carl) Zelinski-Sauter, and Nicole (Taylor) Curran. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, James A. and Tye D. Anderson; and grandparents, Virgil D. and Genevieve P. Anderson and Lester H. and Dorothalene Berry. Susan will be deeply missed by all!
