Aledo Man Sentenced To 15 Years In Prison After Pleading Guilty To Shooting At Police Officers

An Aledo man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison after pleading guilty to multiple felonies for shooting at police officers.

23-year-old Brody Esp entered a guilty plea in Mercer County Circuit Court to convictions for a Class X felony of aggravated discharge of a firearm at a peace officer and a Class 3 felony of threatening a public official. He was sentenced to 15 years in prison for the Class X felony and five years for the Class 3 felony. The prison terms will be served concurrently.

Esp was arrested by Aledo police in January 2025 following a domestic disturbance at the Buttonwood housing addition in Aledo. During the incident, a press release from the City’s public relations firm said Esp threatened to kill officers and fired a round from a semi-automatic handgun in their direction.
