Macy DeBlock’s time at Sherrard High School has been marked by resilience, leadership, and an eagerness to serve. A dedicated two-sport athlete and community-minded student, Macy exemplifies what it means to be a well-rounded graduate ready to take on the next challenge. As a senior, she helped lead the volleyball team through one of its most connected seasons yet and decided to take on a new challenge by joining the softball team for the first time since grade school.
“I hadn’t played since fourth grade,” she said, laughing. “But I wanted to do something fun with my friends before graduating.” That decision speaks volumes about Macy’s spirit—determined, joyful, and willing to try something new.
Her role on the volleyball team is where Macy forged deep friendships and memories. “Being part of a team is always super fun,” she said. “You get to make great connections with your teammates and coaches. It really shaped who I am.”
But Macy’s impact extends well beyond the court. She was a member of the National Honor Society, the school Senate, and an active 4-H participant. Growing up on a farm, she began showing market lambs at age eight—a tradition that helped build her work ethic and love for responsibility. In student government, she helped organize school events like prom and homecoming, saying, “It’s always good to have an impact on what’s going on around you.”
One defining moment of Macy’s high school journey came not in the classroom or on the volleyball court—but during recovery. After breaking her leg, Macy underwent months of physical therapy. It was a tough time, but it turned into something greater: inspiration. “I wanted to be ready for volleyball season, and my physical therapist really motivated me. That’s what made me want to pursue physical therapy myself.”
Academically, an anatomy class during her junior year further sparked her interest in the human body and how it heals. “It just clicked,” she said. “I didn’t really know what I wanted to do until that class.”
This fall, Macy will attend the University of Iowa with plans to study physical therapy. She hopes to eventually earn her advanced degree and work in a field where she can help others recover and rebuild—just as she did.
Reflecting on her time in the Sherrard School District, Macy says the support of the community made all the difference. “It’s not just a school—it’s a community that backs you up. There’s support outside the classroom too, and that makes a big impact.”
With strong roots, a heart for helping, and a resilient mindset, Macy DeBlock is moving forward with purpose. Her story is one of strength, compassion, and optimism—traits that will no doubt carry her far.
