Sherrard defeated Mercer County 49-38 in girls basketball in Aledo on Thursday.
The Tigers led for a majority of the night, but had their lead trimmed to 29-26 late in the third quarter. Sherrard closed the period on a 6-0 run on back-to-back three-pointers from Justine Elbsury and Teagan Nelson to push the advantage to 35-26 heading into the fourth.
Sherrard (10-5, 3-1 TRAC West) never trailed in the fourth quarter.
The Tigers were led in scoring by Maysie Hubbs with a game-high 16 points. Nelson added 13 for Sherrard in the win. The Tigers have won five games in a row.
Shadia Williams paced Mercer County (15-3, 2-2 TRAC West) with 14 points, despite picking up two fouls early in the first quarter.
The Golden Eagles have dropped back-to-back games after starting the season 15-1.
