Mercer County, Orion, Rockridge and Sherrard all opened the 2025-25 high school boys basketball season with wins on Monday.
The Golden Eagles (1-0) defeated Alleman (0-1) 56-45 at the 10&32 Tip-Off Classic in Orion. Brady McPeek led all scorers with 25 points for Mercer County. Spencer Andresen added 12.
Orion (1-0) thumped United (0-1) 82-53 at the 10 & 32 Tip-Off Classic. Kyler Owens netted 23 points, while Will Clarke added 12. The Chargers led by a continuous clock margin in the fourth quarter.
Rockridge (1-0) hammered Stark County (0-1) 85-49 at the Wally Keller Invite at Wethersfield. Luke McKay set a single-game school record with 11 3-pointers and finished with 37 points. Wade Richhart added 29 in the win.
Sherrard (1-0) beat Indian Creek (0-1) in Oregon. The Tigers played without top returner Carter Brown, who is out with an injury early in the season. Brylan Bender led Sherrard with 20 points. Nolan Kline added 16 and Javin Jones scored 15.
