The Mercer County School District is reacting to charges being dismissed against two of its IT workers who were arrested along with the district’s superintendent last year.
Amberly Norton and Andrea Long had criminal charges against them dismissed earlier this week. In July, Mercer County School District Superintendent Tim Farquer was acquitted of all criminal charges against him in a bench trial. All three were arrested last September following an investigation by the Aledo Police Department into a complaint accusing Mercer County School District employees of illegally accessing students’ medical records.
The Mercer County School District released the following statement on Thursday night.
“On Wednesday afternoon, the Mercer County School District was alerted that the Mercer County State’s Attorney dismissed the charges against two of the District’s IT Workers in the wake of the directed verdict and acquittal of Superintendent Tim Farquer. Both employees will return to the District and resume their roles and responsibilities.
The Board of Education’s own investigation is consistent with the Court’s ruling, and all District employees involved in this matter were complying with Board policies and expectations. As previously noted, no confidential student record information, which includes student health information, was shared or disseminated to anyone outside of the school district.
The District looks forward to focusing on the school year and our students.”
