A lockdown at Rockridge Jr/Sr High School was lifted on Thursday afternoon after a report of possible gunshots inside the school turned out to be the sound of a table collapsing in the hallway.
According to a press release from the Rock Island County Sheriff’s Office, the department received a report of “possible gunshots” at around 12:50 p.m. on Thursday. A staff member inside the school said they believed they heard gunfire and immediately called 911.
The school then enacted its lockdown procedures, and the on-site school resource officer quickly determined there was no active shooter or gunshots. The Sheriff’s Department says the noise was confirmed to be the sound of a table collapsing and hitting the floor, which echoed throughout the hallway.
The Rock Island County Sheriff’s Office says there is no threat to the school.
