The official misconduct and misdemeanor battery case against Aledo Police Chief and City Administrator Chris Sullivan has been continued to next month. The delay was asked for by Sullivan’s defense counsel Monday in Mercer County Circuit Court. A status hearing is now set for Aug. 21.
Sullivan, who is free on bond, has been on paid leave from the city since last August when he was charged following an Illinois State Police investigation. The allegation involves “a battery having been reportedly committed by Sullivan, in his capacity as Aledo Police Chief while conducting an arrest.”
A special prosecutor from Henry County is handling the case.
The city is splitting the city administrator and police chief positions moving forward. The plan is to hire a new city administrator sometime this year.
