Rockridge Youth Step Into The Spotlight At Rock Island County Fair

The barns are buzzing with activity at the 2025 Rock Island County Fair, and among the many young participants are Landry Franks of Edgington and Blake Yoder—two Rockridge-area youth proudly representing their schools and communities through livestock showmanship.

Landry Franks, a Rockridge student, has been busy showing sheep throughout the day. He’s exhibiting crossbred ewe lambs and is set to return to the show ring later in the evening. While he admits some animals can get ornery under the spotlight, he’s learned how to keep them calm. “We give them an attitude adjustment,” he joked, smiling at the idea that even show animals have their moments.

Also spending the day in the barns is Blake Yoder, who’s showing Jersey cows and preparing to bring in beef cattle later in the week. Blake’s enthusiasm for the fair is matched by his confidence in the ring. “I’m really good at showing animals,” he said proudly—adding that while his dad might give advice, he’s carved out his own path as a strong showman.

From sheep to cattle, the Rock Island County Fair continues to offer a platform where kids can grow in confidence, responsibility, and agricultural knowledge—one animal at a time.
