A Mercer County Sheriff’s deputy has been charged with DUI.
According to the sheriff’s office, it was notified on April 14 that a Mercer County deputy had been charged with DUI in another Illinois county. Court records show 25-year-old Lewis Andrews was cited for DUI, driving the wrong way on a divided highway, and improper traffic lane usage in Henry County.
He entered a not guilty plea to the charges in May. Andrews’ next court appearance is August 12.
Officials stated that the deputy was placed on administrative leave pending an investigation.
The sheriff’s office said the deputy is facing “serious consequences in his employment.”
