Rockridge (31-1) senior Payton Brown hit her 24th home run of the season in an 8-2 win against Seneca Saturday, tying the IHSA single-season record. Two other players in state history have hit 24 home runs in a season, Goreville’s Taylor Odom in 2012 and Schaumburg’s Elaine Walker in 2015.
The Rockets ended the regular season going 4-0 at the Rockridge Spring Classic over the weekend with wins over Seneca, Dakota, Manteno and Hononegah. Brown hit four home runs across those four games.
Brown’s 51 career home runs are the most all-time at Rockridge. She set the single-season record for the Rockets last season with 17 and broke it again this year.
She currently sits eighth on the IHSA career home runs list. Brown’s numbers come in just three seasons, as she missed her freshman season in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Brown is hitting .586 with 24 home runs and and 51 RBI in 2023.
