The “Deputy Sheriff Nick Weist Memorial Highway” will be dedicated this weekend. The ceremony is Saturday at 11:45 a.m. at Alpha Elementary School. Weist was killed in the line of duty in 2022. State Rep. Dan Swanson sponsored the House Joint Resolution in April honoring Weist’s legacy with the highway designation.
The “Deputy Sheriff Nick Weist Memorial Highway” will run along U.S. Route 150 from Galesburg Main Street to the intersection of U.S. Route 150 and Illinois Route 17 in Alpha.
Deputy Weist had served with the Knox County Sheriff’s Office for four years and previously worked for the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department and Aledo Police Department.
