Today’s Senior Spotlight shines on Mercer County High School’s Class of 2025 graduate, Aliyah Lantau. WRMJ’s Ty Taylor caught up with Aliyah to reflect on her high school experience, passions, and what’s next after graduation.
Aliyah found her voice and confidence through theater, where she was drawn in by a friend during her freshman year. “It really brought me out of my comfort zone,” she shared. “I got to express myself freely and be a part of something amazing.” That first step into the spotlight turned into a lasting love for drama, musicals, and performing.
In addition to theater, Aliyah immersed herself in the arts and music programs at Mercer County. She participated in art clubs, sang in the chamber choir, and performed with the majorettes during football season. “Art has always been something I’ve been passionate about since I was little,” she said. “Music came along later, but I really enjoy both.”
When asked what made Mercer County special, Aliyah was quick to credit her teachers. “They’ve always been amazing and supportive. I’ve struggled at times, but they helped me through and now—I’m graduating.”
Looking ahead, Aliyah plans to attend Monmouth College, where she’ll pursue a degree in art education, a decision sparked by the encouragement of her high school art teacher. “At first I didn’t know what I wanted to do,” she said. “But my art teacher helped me see what I’m capable of.”
