High Roads Advantage marked a milestone Thursday afternoon as friends, family, and staff gathered to celebrate the graduation of students earning their high school diplomas through the workforce development program.
For many of the graduates, it felt like the weight of the world had been lifted.
“It’s such a relief,” said one graduate. “Now I can move forward with my life—look for better jobs and finally make plans for the future.”
High Roads Advantage offers a second chance to students who, for various reasons, left traditional school settings. The program prepares participants for the future by helping them get their GED—while also helping them plan for what’s next.
Jeannie Conaway, a leader with the program, says it’s all about removing barriers to employment and giving students the tools they need to succeed.
“We’re a workforce development program,” she explained. “Our goal is to help individuals overcome obstacles and take that important first step toward independence. We even help pay for training after graduation.”
The Aledo-based site keeps class sizes small—currently just 12 students—to ensure each participant gets personal support. Conoway describes the environment as tight-knit and welcoming.
“It’s very family-like,” she said. “We work hard to keep our students engaged. They’re part of something here.”
As each graduate crossed the stage, applause filled the room—a sign not just of academic achievement, but of a bright future now within reach.
