As we move into the fall harvest season, the importance of safety on the farm is top of mind.
This week is Farm Safety Week in Illinois. Local State Rep. Dan Swanson (R-Alpha) says large equipment and hazardous chemicals are just a few of the dangers that come with daily life on the farm.
Swanson says the farming profession sees over 500 fatalities nationwide each year and has a work-related death rate seven times higher than the national average for workers. He added that safety is something that everyone around the farm and on the roadways must take seriously every day.
