Tigers Bring Home State Hardware, Eagles Win 7th Grade State Title

The Sherrard Tigers brought home four medals from the Class 1A Girls State Track Meet Saturday. Charlotte Frere lead the way with a second place finish in the discus. Her teammate Olivia Meskan finished 8th. Kelsey Hutchins finished third in the triple jump and the Tigers 4 X 200 relay team placed 8th.

The Mercer County 7th grade girls track team captured the IESA Class 3A State Championship at East Peoria. Mercer County ran up 42 points to edge El Paso-Gridley with 35. Eureka finished third with 34. The Golden Eagles 4 X 200 relay team lead the way with a first place finish. The 4 X 400 relay finished second. Kaitlyn Frieden placed third in the 400 and Kyla Blaser was third in the high jump. Alayna Mitchell was third in the 200 and sixth in the 100 hurdles and Emalyn Millar was sixth in the 1600. Sophia Latko was 10th in the 8th grade long jump.

In the boys competition Mercer County’s 8th grade 4 X 100 relay team finished fourth and the 4 X 400 relay team finished tenth. Tyce Litwiler finished 18th in the 7th grade high jump.

In baseball, Sherrard won the Class 2A Sherrard Regional stopping Orion 15-7 Saturday. The Chargers beat the Tigers twice during the regular season giving up just two runs. Sherrard advances to the Knoxville Sectional Wednesday where they will meet IVC.
