Groundbreaking for the construction of the new Rockridge Elementary School is expected in September, according to Rockridge School District Superintendent Marcus Bush.
Work on the project is tentatively planned to begin after Rockridge’s 2025 Homecoming, which is Sept. 13. Bids are expected to be accepted for different parts of the construction over the next two months.
Voters in the Rockridge School District overwhelmingly approved the project last November, which will construct a brand-new centralized elementary school in Edgington, just south of the existing Junior/Senior High School. It will house the district’s pre-K through fifth-grade students.
Bush says the new building will provide students in the district with a better learning experience.
Bush says the district is planning for the new elementary school to open in the 2027-28 school year.
Rockridge currently has elementary school locations in Andalusia, Illinois City and Taylor Ridge.
The project will also add air conditioning in the Junior/Senior High School.
