Mary Jean Spivey, 92 of Alpha, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, June 27, 2023, at Seminary Manor in Galesburg, Illinois. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., Saturday, July 1, at the New Windsor Presbyterian Church. The funeral service will directly follow the conclusion of the visitation at 11 a.m. Interment will be at the New Windsor Petrie Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be left to either the Alpha or New Windsor Food Pantries, New Windsor Presbyterian Church, or the New Windsor Cemetery Maintenance and Improvement Fund. Mary was born February 20, 1931, in rural Ophiem, Illinois, the daughter of Paul and Marian Benson. She graduated from the Alpha High School with the Class of 1949. She married Johnny Spivey on September 27, 1953, at the Grace Lutheran Church in Ophiem. Johnny passed away in 1981.
Mary was a member of the New Windsor Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking, sewing, and attending all of her kids and grandkids events.
She is survived by three children, Steve (Sandy) Spivey of New Windsor, Stephanie (Greg) Giertz of New Windsor, and Teresa (Mike) Mrocka of Howell, Michigan, and three grandchildren, Amy Spivey, Matt Spivey, and Ryan Giertz.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Spivey, and parents, Paul and Marian Benson.
