James was born June 27, 1948, in Lincoln, Illinois, to Ernest and Loeta Workman Edwards. He attended Illinois State University and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Technology. James was a proud veteran and served in the Army. He married Sue Dunlap on June 5, 1976, in the First United Presbyterian Church in Aledo. James originally taught shop at Westmer High School and would later became a dairy and hay farmer. He took great pride in quality product and customer satisfaction. He adored his daughter Rebecca and his “grandkids,” Nic, Cheyenne, and Sam.

He was a member of VFW Post 1571 and College Avenue Presbyterian Church. He participated in the choir and volunteered at the Mercer County food pantry. He served as a deacon and would ring the bell every Christmas.

James enjoyed camping and loved gardening – pulling weeds was therapy to him. James would donate and give away his excess veggies. He was a lifelong Alabama Crimson Tide fan, and his wife was sure their neighbors could hear him cheering them on to victory. Jim was really into politics and was a precinct committeeman on Precinct #6.

Survivors include his wife; daughter, Rebecca (Kevin) Wagner of Vermont; “grandchildren:” Nic, Cheyenne, and Sam; seven “great-grandchildren,” with one on the way; brothers, Rev. William (Diane) Edwards and Tim (Sue) Edwards; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded by his parents; grandparents; one baby brother; and stepmothers, Lola and Fran Edwards.
