Irene J. Ackerman, 79 of New Boston, Illinois, passed away Wednesday, June 21, 2023 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Private graveside services are in the New Boston Cemetery. There is no visitation. Memorials may be left to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Irene was born July 19, 1943, in Lime Springs, Iowa, to Max and Esther Berner Korner. She attended the Lime Springs schools. On February 29, 2009, she was united in marriage to Larry Ackerman in Oquawka.
She was employed at John Deere Harvester in East Moline, retiring in 2015. Irene was a member of the UAW Local #79.
Irene was an avid Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears fan. She enjoyed gardening, watching old westerns, playing solitaire, and being with her dog.
Survivors include her husband, Larry; one daughter, Joyce (Don) Loy of Port Byron, Illinois; three sons, Thomas (Amy) Jordan of Dubuque, Iowa, James Edward (Pam) Jordan of Great Bend, Kansas, and William Joseph (Annette) Jordan of Apple Valley, Minnesota; step-son, Larry R. (Wendy) Ackerman of Sikeston, Missouri; 15 grandchildren; multiple great grandchildren; and special friend, Kim Noke.
The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics – Intensive Care Unit (ICU), especially Dr. Day, for the care and compassion given to them and Irene.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents and one sister.
