The Mercer County Golden Eagles 4 x 100 meter relay team finished fifth Saturday at the Class 1A state track meet at Eastern Illinois University. The team of Brooke Ziegenhorn, Catelyn Hoffman, Kari Coulter and Kenzie Baker toured the oval in 50.15. Orion’s Danielle Taets brought home two medals, finishing second in the Triple Jump and seventh in the 100 hurdles. The daugher of former Aledo football coach Cully Welter, Aliyah Welter, won the Class 2A pole vault with a leap of 12’9″, the top height for all three classes.
