A recent Mercer County High School graduate had a very successful senior year learning a skilled trade. Brandon Maere won welding competitions at WIU and Section 4 FFA and went on to finish second at the State FFA contest.
Maere finished off the school year by winning a $5,000 scholarship to attend Midwest Technical Institute in Moline. His career plans include welding on pipelines.
