Sherrard Football Preparing For Emotional Varsity Finale Friday

Sherrard High School is preparing for its final varsity football game of the season on Friday.

The school district announced earlier this week that after Friday’s home game against Orion, the football program will play a JV-only schedule for the remainder of the season, citing a limited number of varsity-ready players, especially along the offensive and defensive lines, following several injuries and sicknesses leading into last week’s season opener.

While recording his weekly pregame interview with WRMJ on Thursday, first-year Sherrard High School football coach Zach Weigel said it’s been an emotional week for the kids in the program and called the decision to forfeit the remaining seven varsity games “possibly the toughest of his life.”

Sherrard has five seniors on its varsity football roster.
