Charles A. Dunn, 88 of Aledo, formerly of Eliza, died Monday, July 18, 2022, at his home surrounded by family. Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Thursday, July 21, at Speer Funeral Home, Aledo. Burial will be in Aledo Cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Eliza Community Church or Beacon of Hope Hospice. Charles Arthur was born on September 19, 1933, in Monmouth, Illinois to Wilbur D. and Ruth (Sharer) Dunn. He served in the United States Army from 1951 to 1953. Charley married Shirley Forrest on September 2, 1956, in Joy, Illinois.
Charley and Shirley farmed near Joy from 1954 through 1963 when he went to work for Grain Processing Corporation, Muscatine. After working for 29 years with GPC, he retired and went back to helping his nephew, Mark, farm. He was a hard worker, loved to garden, and was a Jack of all Trades, Master of None. Charley enjoyed helping friends and neighbors with home renovations and cement work and was proud of the fact that he designed and built his own home. Charley was a pillar of the Eliza Community Church since 1963, serving the church in many capacities over the years.
Charley is survived by his wife, Shirley; children and spouses: Randy and Ronda Dunn of Benton, Illinois, Rusty and Chris Dunn of Pekin, Illinois, and LuAnn Dunn of Mattawan, Michigan; grandchildren: Lindsey and Evan Burgstahler, Erin and Tyler Micenheimer, Sara and Matt Hammer, Gavin and Elaine Wanstreet, Madison Dunn and fiancé, Austin Walschart, Anna and Kyle Holmes, Jackson and Samuel Dunn, and Benjamin, Maxwell, and Hannah Berkowitz; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Robert Dunn.
