Kids Day at the 2025 Mercer County Fair was full of energy, excitement, and a little bit of livestock love—especially from Ellie Hampton, who brought her 1,000-pound Hereford steer named Ace to the show ring.
Ellie joined WRMJ’s Terry James to talk about her time at the fair and the hard work that goes into preparing for the big event. “You’ve got to walk with him a lot, make sure you’re feeding him the right amount, and just make sure he weighs enough,” she said, standing proudly beside Ace.
The Mercer County Fair has been a regular part of Ellie’s life for years, and while some kids may head for the rides, she’s fully focused on her animals and the show ring. “It’s all work and no play,” she said with a smile.
Ellie is one of many young people dedicating their time and talent to livestock shows, representing the spirit and work ethic that 4-H and fair life build year after year. Whether she’s winning ribbons or just enjoying time with her steer, she’s making memories that stick.
Good luck in the ring, Ellie—and thanks for reminding us what Kids Day is really all about.
