Sherrard scored the final four points of the game to beat Dunlap 57-53 at Wharton Field House in Moline on Monday afternoon.
The Tigers (15-4) trailed by as many as seven points in the first quarter, but cut the deficit to 15-11 at the end of the first and rallied to take a 32-30 lead at halftime. Sherrard outscored Dunlap 11-2 in the third to take a 43-32 advantage into the fourth quarter. The Tigers led by as many as 12 in the fourth, but the Eagles rallied to tie the game on two separate occasions, including 53-53 with under a minute to play.
Sherrard senior Carter Brown broke the tie with a reverse layup on an assist from classmate Ryder Veronda, which put the Tigers up for good. Nolan Kline grabbed a defensive rebound off of a Dunlap miss on the ensuing possession and sank both free throws to put the game away.
Brown poured in a game-high 23 points to lead Sherrard to its eighth consecutive win. Brylan Bender added 12 points, and Kline finished with 10.
Dunlap (7-10) was led by Mac Scholl with 18 points.
On Friday, Dunlap beat 3A No. 10 Metamora on the road in double overtime, ending Metamora’s 50-game home winning streak, which was the sixth longest in IHSA history. The Eagles also beat Rock Island 69-66 earlier this month.
