Mercer County Murder Defendant Remains In Custody; Arrested In Rural Sherrard Drug Death

A Milan man arrested following a drug induced death investigation in rural Sherrard has waived both his detention and preliminary hearings.
41-year-old William DeWitt was taken into custody last week. He is facing First Degree Murder and Drug Induced Homicide counts stemming from the Dec. 22 death of Anthony Qualls. DeWitt has pleaded not guilty to both charges and remains in the Mercer County Jail. A pre-trial conference is set for June 3 in Mercer County Circuit Court.
A co-defendant in the case, 52-year-old Susan McFalls of Colona, who is out of police custody, will be in court May 13.
The state has filed a petition to deny her pre-trial release.
McFalls is charged with 1st Degree Murder (accountability) and Drug Induced Homicide (accountability).
