The Rockridge School District confirming a criminal investigation against one of its former employees. The matter involves misappropriation of school funds. The employee in question, Angela Strong, submitted her resignation in August 2018 after school officials were notified by district auditors of questionable entries related to school activity accounts she administered.
During questioning by school reps, a district press release states, “Ms. Strong admitted that she had misappropriated money for personal use over the prior two years and has since repaid $8,000 to the school district.”
District reps also asked the auditors to undertake a detailed audit of the activity accounts administered by Strong and the auditors have since indicated another $7,173 is missing from those funds and additional cash was misappropriated from various funds including receipts for athletic events. The district has asked the Rock Island County State’s Attorney’s office to seek restitution for the additional monies in the criminal case. The district adds that new procedures have been implemented to tighten security measures associated with school activity funds. Strong, of Illinois City, has officially been charged in Rock Island County with two Class 3 felonies of theft. A first appearance is scheduled for Thursday.
