Newman scored the final 22 points of the night to defeat Mercer County 22-3 at George Pratt Memorial Field on Friday.

The Golden Eagles (1-4, 0-2 TRAC Rock) took a 3-0 lead on a 36-yard field goal by Cannon Link with 11:58 to play in the second quarter.

The Comtes (3-2, 1-1 TRAC Rock) got on the board with 4:52 to left in the first half when Maceo Williams intercepted a pass and returned it 40 yards for a touchdown to put Newman ahead 8-3. Two offensive plays later for Mercer County, the Golden Eagles lost a fumble at their own 22-yard line. That set up a 19-yard TD run by Rylan Alvarado to extend Newman’s lead to 16-3 with 3:18 remaining in the second quarter.

After a scoreless third quarter, the Comtes put the game away on a 43-yard TD pass from Tim Pappocia to John Rowzee with 2:06 left.

 

Riverdale outscored Rockridge 20-0 in the second half to remain unbeaten in a 26-7 win in Port Byron on Friday.

The Rockets (4-1, 1-1 TRAC Rock) struck first on a 19-yard TD pass from Cullen Schwigen to Wyatt Osborn with 1:50 left in the first quarter to jump ahead 7-0.

The Rams (5-0, 2-0 TRAC Rock) didn’t score until the final minute of the first half when Lucas Dunbar broke a 50-yard TD run to trim the deficit to 7-6 at halftime.

Riverdale took its first lead of the night on a 33-yard TD pass from Abram Krier to Jackson Tegeler on a fourth-down play with 6:58 remaining in the third quarter. The Rams put the game out of reach with two long TD runs in the fouth quarter – a 51-yard TD by Lucas Dunbar and an 80-yard run by Krier.

 

Erie-Prophetstown beat Orion 39-6.

The Panthers (5-0, 2-0 TRAC Rock) were led by quarterback Evan Steimle, who accounted for four TDs.
