Sherrard senior Kelsey Hutchins won the triple jump state championship at the IHSA 1A State Track and Field Finals in Charleston Saturday.
Hutchins jumped 11.41 meters, finishing ahead of runner-up Laney Nelson of Tri-Valley (11.18 meters). Hutchins also was the champion at the Illinois Top Times Indoor Championship in March.
She medaled in two other events at the state meet, finishing seventh in the 4×100-meter relay and fifth in the 4×400-meter relay (Hutchins, Lillian Russell, Sarah Neal, and Cami Anderson for both events).
Russell also took sixth the place in the 400-meters.
Mercer County medaled in three events. Eden Mueller took fifth in the 3200-meters and eighth in the 1600-meters. Molly Hofmann finished eighth place in high jump.
