Sherrard held Mercer County scoreless in the fourth quarter in a 46-35 win at Harry Hunt Gymnasium on Tuesday, which clinched the Tigers’ second straight outright boys basketball TRAC West championship.
The Tigers (20-7, 8-2 TRAC West) led 12-8 at the end of the first quarter and were in front 19-15 midway through the second quarter. Mercer County responded with a 13-0 run to take its largest lead, 28-19. The Golden Eagles (13-16, 4-6 TRAC West) held a 28-21 advantage at halftime and led 35-31 at the end of the third quarter.
Sherrard outscored Mercer County 15-0 in the fourth quarter to pull away.
Carter Brown netted a game-high 18 points for the Tigers in the win. Nolan Kline scored 11 points, and Brylan Bender added 10 points in the win.
Sherrard has won 20+ games in three straight seasons for the first time in program history.
Spencer Andresen led Mercer County with 14 points. Brady McPeek added 13 points in the loss. The Golden Eagles shot 2-12 from the free-throw line in the loss.
