The Seaton Fire Chief and Mercer County High School bass fishing coach has been identified as the fatality in a car crash near Taylor Ridge on Sunday night.
The Rock Island County Coroner’s Office said Brenton Collins, 38, of Seaton, died following the collision at 134th Avenue West and 105th Street West. The Rock Island County Sheriff’s Office said the crash happened around 6:30 p.m. on Sunday.
Officials say Collins’ vehicle collided with a truck, and Collins was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the truck was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
Collins had just finished his second year as the Mercer County High School bass fishing coach.
