Nearly 50 youth basketball players in the Sherrard School District participated in the opening day of the Sherrard boys basketball program’s fourth annual Summer Park Tour at Sherrard Grade School on Monday.
In 2023, Sherrard boys’ basketball coach Alex Johnson launched the idea of hosting free outdoor community basketball sessions at various parks throughout the school district. It’s geared towards boys and girls going into second through eighth grades, with Sherrard High School boys basketball players helping instruct.
Each stop consists of an hour of a mix of instructional drills and games.
The Sherrard Boys Basketball Summer Park Tour continues with stops at parks in Matherville (June 15) and Viola (June 29). Both run from noon to 1 p.m.
