A great turn out over the weekend for the 1st annual VFW Post and Auxiliary #1571 rummage sale. It took place during Aledo’s Antiques Day at the Mercer County VFW. A wide variety of toys, books, clothes, collectibles, and more were sold.
Donations for the event came from community members. Suzy DeKeyrel helped organize the event and tells WRMJ News the sale raised over $2,000.
“Everything we got was donation. So we didn’t pay for anything which was awesome and people really turned out to bring their donations and we did it kind of as a fundraiser for both the VFW Post and the auxiliary. We work together, but we are two separate entities. So we made over $2,000, which was awesome. You know, some of the things that we do with that money are Christmas baskets for veterans and families, and scholarships for students. We give money to the school district for milk money for the kids. We do wreaths at our cemetery, funeral luncheons – a lot of people come to the funeral luncheons there and we don’t charge for that. It’s all donation.”
All proceeds will benefit the post and auxiliary equally. Another rummage sale is planned for next year.
