Riverdale advanced to the IHSA 2A girls basketball Sweet 16 with a 51-39 win over Byron in the semifinal of the Mendota Sectional on Tuesday.
The Rams (29-3) led 11-6 at the end of the first quarter and extended their advantage to 30-18 at halftime. Riverdale held a 38-26 lead at the end of the third quarter.
Jillian Murray led the Rams’ balanced scoring attack with 12 points. Cayleigh Hungate and Katie Cox both added 11 points, while Brooklyn Peterson chipped in 10.
Riverdale advances to play 2A No. 2 Byron (30-2) in the sectional championship in Mendota on Thursday. Byron crushed Alleman (16-18) 72-18 in the sectional semifinals on Tuesday.
Riverdale set a new single-season program record by notching its 29th win on Tuesday.
