Momentum Continues To Improve Ambulance Service In Mercer County

With voters in the New Boston-Eliza Fire Protection District approving an ambulance tax levy last week and nearly 25 people participating in local EMT training courses, Mercer County continues to try to address a local ambulance shortage.

The ambulance tax approved aims to restore an ambulance service in the New Boston-Eliza Fire Protection District after the New Boston Volunteer Ambulance Service closed its operations in July due to a lack of staff.

There are currently two EMT training courses being held locally in Aledo and New Boston, with nearly 25 people enrolled.

Aledo Fire Protection District Board of Trustees President Mike Sponsler says there’s momentum in bringing more ambulances to the county.

The trainees will take a national board test on May 2. If they pass, they will officially become EMTs.
