Mercer County High School football coach Tanner Matlick resigned from his position Tuesday.
In a statement to WRMJ, Mercer County Superintendent Tim Farquer said, “The Mercer County School District greatly appreciates the time Coach Matlick dedicated to our kids and our program. We wish him nothing but the best. The search for a new head football coach will begin immediately.”
Matlick was suspended indefinitely after Mercer County’s 34-6 loss to Rockridge in Week 7 and didn’t coach in the team’s final two games.
Matlick led the Golden Eagles to a 9-8 record in 17 games. The Golden Eagles (4-5) missed the playoffs for the first time in school history this fall and for the first time in 28 seasons in the Aledo/Westmer program.
