Mercer County and Sherrard both earned softball wins on Thursday.
The Golden Eagles (2-1) defeated Illini West 1-0 on the road.
Mercer County plated the only run of the game in the top of the seventh inning to break a scoreless tie. Natalie Thomson went 3-3 with an RBI to lead the Golden Eagles at the plate. Alivia Gillespie was the winning pitcher. She struck out eight batters and allowed just three hits in seven scoreless innings.
The Tigers (3-0) beat Geneseo 13-3 in six innings at home.
Makensie Westfall went 3-4 with a home run and six RBI in the win, while Makenzy Moran was 3-3 with three RBI. Westfall allowed two runs in six innings to pick up the win in the pitcher’s circle.
