Carla Ewing, Public Health Administrator for Mercer County, states, “We are releasing these numbers today as we believe we have enough cases to protect any potential privacy violations and to give perspective on the status of cases in our county.” She adds, “The Health Department follows up on every positive case and contacts them daily for an update for the period of their isolation. Once they are released from isolation, we release them as a public health case. As usual, all cases are under the direct care of their personal provider. While their symptoms may have resolved, they may not be fully recovered from the effects of the virus.”

Ewing states, “While we have been very blessed in Mercer County to have comparatively low positive numbers as opposed to our surrounding counties, this should not be an indication that we need to lessen our diligence in practicing those guidelines that we know works to keep the community safe:  practice social distancing of 6ft., wash hands for at least 20 seconds regularly, use hand sanitizer when unable to wash hands, wear a protective face covering in public, stay home when ill or leave home only for essential travel and errands”.
