Helena R. Brockett, 86 of Aledo, died Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at her home. Private family graveside services will be Monday, May 8, at Linwood Cemetery, Galesburg, Illinois. Memorials may be made to the Disabled American Veterans or to FurEver Friends for Mercer County Animal Shelter. Speer Funeral Home, Aledo, is assisting the family. Helena Ramona Temple was born on January 26, 1937, in Fulton, Illinois, to Dewey and Helen (Blink) Temple. She married Richard Brockett in 1958, he preceded her in death. Helena drove school bus for over 30 years for the Rockridge School District.
Helena was dedicated to her family. Her joy came from cooking and shopping for them and vacationing with them. She was known for her wonderful holiday meals, where there was always enough for everyone to take leftovers home. She loved bargains and enjoyed going to yard sales.
Those left to cherish Helena’s memory include her children and spouses: Tina and Larry Partain of Aledo, Kirk Brockett and Marie Cavanaugh of Monmouth, and Kevin and Suzanne Brockett and Lisa and Ed Anderson, all of Aledo; a sister and brother-in-law, Delores and Kenny Fritz of Morrison, Illinois; seven grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two special friends, Betty, and Dorothy. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and five brothers.
