Dorothy V. McWhorter, 99 of Aledo, died Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at her home. A private family service will take place, followed by interment at Warren County Memorial Park Cemetery, Monmouth, IL. Memorials may be made in Dorothy’s honor to the Mercer County Senior Center. Speer Funeral Home, Aledo, is assisting the family.
Dorothy Violet was born on July 23, 1925, to Ward Porter and Muriel (Young) Haynes in Ponemah, Illinois. She was a 1944 graduate of Alexis High School. Dorothy married Marvin Blaine “Bus” McWhorter on October 9, 1946. He preceded her in death on June 11, 2004.
Dorothy managed her farms in Warren County and helped Bus with Greenview in Mercer County. She was a member of the William Dennison Chapter of the N.S.D.A.R.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Rex Laon McWhorter of Aledo and Tim and Jody McWhorter of New Windsor, IL; son-in-law, Marvin Cook of Little York, IL; grandchildren, Cyndee and Bob Stockham of Seaton, IL, Chad and Traci Cook of Aledo, Coby McWhorter of Galesburg, IL, and Sondra McWhorter of New Windsor; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and her special canine companion, Angus. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bus; and a daughter, Jan Kay Cook.
