ALEDO, IL – The City of Aledo is proud to welcome Troy Blaser as its first-ever Parks and Recreation Director, bringing hometown pride, experience, and a passion for community engagement to the role.
A Hometown Leader Returns
Blaser, an Aledo native, officially stepped into the position on January 2, 2025, and has already begun shaping the city’s recreational vision. A graduate of Aurora University with a Bachelor of Science in Recreation Administration, he brings over 15 years of experience in parks and recreation leadership.
His career has taken him across North Carolina, where he held leadership roles with Wilson Parks and Recreation, Nash County Parks and Recreation, and the Town of Garner Parks and Recreation. Along the way, he earned recognition such as the Young Professional Award from the North Carolina Recreation & Park Association, a testament to his commitment to innovative programming.
Transforming Aledo’s Recreational Landscape
Blaser’s appointment comes at a pivotal moment as Aledo prepares for new recreational developments, including the much-anticipated Aledo Aquatics Center.
“I think there’s a lot of potential here. The people want it,” said Troy Blaser. “I had a great feeling about the role and this opportunity. I was excited to take it.”
Blaser, who fondly remembers Aledo’s former swimming pool, sees the new aquatics facility as a game-changer for the community.
“It’s exciting. It’s an awesome opportunity for Aledo,” he said. “It’s a beautiful looking facility. I grew up going to the old swimming pool, and the new facility is a great opportunity for our city.”
A Vision for Growth and Community Engagement
Blaser’s leadership will extend beyond the Aquatics Center. He has a track record of organizing youth sports, special events, and community-wide initiatives, including tournaments, family festivals, and youth athletic programs.
“The right people are in place to make good things happen,” Blaser said. “We are looking to bring more tournaments to Aledo and give opportunities for kids to learn, play, and grow.”
A Collaborative Effort
Blaser’s role is part of a partnership between the City of Aledo, the Aledo Park District, and the Mercer County Family YMCA, designed to enhance recreational opportunities for all residents.
“His addition to our staff perfectly captures the city’s commitment to fostering partnerships that prioritize the well-being of our residents,” said Aledo Mayor Chris Hagloch. “We look forward to seeing him grow Aledo’s recreational opportunities.”
