ALEDO, IL – The City of Aledo has been awarded $50,000 in funding through the Ameren Illinois Community Engagement and Consultation (CEC) program, supporting the city’s efforts to enhance local transportation infrastructure with electrification projects.
The funding allows Aledo to explore several potential investments, including the installation of Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE)—commonly known as EV charging stations—or the purchase of electric vehicles for the city’s Public Works or Police Department.
“City Council is still weighing what investments make the most sense for the City of Aledo, but this partnership signifies the continued push for advancement within the city,” said Mayor Chris Hagloch. “We are really excited to have these funds and the possibility they unlock for our community.”
One option under consideration is the installation of Level 2 EV charging stations in Downtown Aledo, which would provide an important service to both residents and visitors.
“An investment like this helps Aledo further its vision for the future and provides benefits for air quality and public health,” said City Administrator Mike Chausse. “An added benefit of public EV chargers in Downtown Aledo is the ability to extend visitor stays in Downtown, which helps our local businesses immensely.”
The grant is part of a broader initiative by Ameren Illinois to support communities in developing sustainable transportation solutions. In addition to the funding, Ameren is offering several EV-related programs for Aledo residents and businesses, including:
ChargeSmart Program – Incentives for residents and businesses that shift energy use, including EV charging, to off-peak hours.
Driver Education Support – Complimentary EV resources and rebates for high school driving programs in eligible communities.
EVP Network – Connecting residents and businesses with ICC-certified electricians to assist with EV infrastructure projects.
Dealer Partners Network – Resources to help Aledo residents find an EV that meets their needs.
The city will continue refining its implementation plan, with updates to come as discussions progress.
