During May Lyme Disease Awareness Month, the Illinois Lyme Association, which is based in Aledo, is promoting prevention practices.
According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), nearly 476,000 people are diagnosed with Lyme Disease each year. It’s a bacterial infection that spreads to people through bites from blacklegged ticks.
Typical symptoms of Lyme Disease include fever, headache, fatigue a skin rash. If left untreated, infection can spread to joints, the nervous system and the heart.
