A Little Bit Of Country Magic: Petting Zoo Brings Smiles At The Rock Island County Fair

There’s something special about the sound of giggles and the gentle patter of little feet around a petting zoo — and this year at the 2025 Rock Island County Fair, Halee Jett is right in the center of that magic.

Tucked inside the fairgrounds, Halee Jett’s petting zoo is drawing big crowds with its collection of cuddly, curious, and downright adorable animals. “I’d say the goats are the biggest hit,” she smiles. “Kids can go right in and pet them, feed them, and hang out. It’s a lot of fun.”

But it’s not just goats that have folks stopping by. A quick stroll through the enclosure reveals mini ponies, a friendly donkey, ducks, baby chicks, and even a Zebu named Zach — a miniature breed of cow with a personality all his own. Woody and Buzz, a pair of dairy calves, are making friends fast, while the Flemish giant rabbits, affectionately named Andy and Randy, are winning hearts left and right.

Every animal has a name and a story, thanks to Haley’s care and attention. “It’s all free to visit,” she explains. “The only cost is $2 for a cup of feed — and that’s if you want to treat the animals. Otherwise, you can pet to your heart’s content.”

Whether you’re young or just young at heart, the petting zoo is a cozy corner of the fair where kindness and curiosity come together. So next time you hear a soft bleat or catch sight of tiny hooves, follow the sound — Halee Jett and her furry friends are waiting with open arms and friendly noses.
